Title: what's my engine code?

I have a j plate 8v Gti, wheat is the engine code. i have read it is on the block below cylinder 3, but it's a mess in there and i cant see anything. Is PB generic for this engine, how can i tell?

It should be a PB, see if you have a sticker in the boot which will list it.
