Hi all,
Been coming on here for a while now looking at every body's projects and there is some fantastic stuff happening. I have my own little issue, I own a very clean mk4 oak green golf 2.0 gti (no laughing at the back). My problem is that I bought the car as a commuting car and the fuel economy is just awful. I've kept the car very well maintained with right oils etc but don't seem to be able to get more than high 20's on mpg. There's no faults on the engine at all. So without going on I want to know whether it would be possible to fit a Diesel engine into my vehicle and would I have to replace gear box clutch? What about ecu.
Would it make economical sense to do this or should I just go and buy a diesel for cheap and then repair the rusty knackered body that comes with it.? I'm on a real tight budget. Appreciate all replies.

Mk 4s are very very cheap cars, be far more economical by a million miles to just buy a diesel mate

Needed to hear it out loud. Cheers man. Begin the internet rummage.

Yep sell up and buy a TDI

Are they really that bad economy wise, I get more out of my Stage 2 Turbo

Yeah they're crap  the only reason I keep it is because the shell is really tidy. Would love a tdi or the 1.8 t. I'll have to see on Friday what's about on ebay. The other problem I have is that everything in price range like a little fixer upper is usually miles away with no tax so I can't go and get them.
