I had 2 bad scratches on the back of the car where my golf bag scraped the car, wasn't particularly happy with it obviously so spoke with a mate who is a keen detailer. Rather than a deep cut it just looked like a white streak. He took some G3 to it and it came out a treat. However, on the back panel on the drivers side he noticed another mark and attempted to fix it... its now a bl00dy mess.
He promised me he could bring his polishing machine and maybe see if it will buff out if he takes a mil of the paint or something. Ive spoken with Chips away, but they said it'll cost a couple of hundred. Suggestions appreciated.

No cant feel a thing. So i presume il be able to have this machine polished out? Have you done this yourself or is it dangerous territory?
Chips away said id have to get the whole panel repainted for 250 quid, i wouldnt have thought so.

As long as you can't feel it with your finger nail then it won't need a panel painted! You may need a few passes with different compounds and pads on a rotary/DA. But it can be done.
Off the top of my head look for Black Magic Detail in Edinburgh.

Get yaself a DA/Rotary and some compound polish of varying abrasiveness (I use Autosmart Evo 1 and Evo 3 myself). You'll be surprised at how easy that should come out. You'll pick it up easily and will have the tools to do it again should you get any more scratches...

I take it your not going to let your mate try and polish it out then? Dead easy with a DA or rotary.

Adam - yeh i saw that, mightily impressive stuff!!! Need to find out costs first ha. But keen to get a full detail anyway, thinking itl be circa 250-300 by the looks of others in the area.
Car Mad Dad - d a m n thats some good work. Be tempted to try it, but id hate to make it worse if thats possible! Il look in to it as it would save my a fair few pennys
Jimble - like above, if it would save me a fair whack then ideal. And if its easy and relatively straight forward, then il give him a shout. As it angers me seeing it. Sticks it out so bad on a black car

Yes that will polish out no problem. You need to introduce some heat into the paint to remove a couple of microns of clear, that is all.
I repaired a scratch on a black Freelander a year or so ago, came out like new...

There are plenty of great detailers in your area who will sort that no problem!

Whatever happens don't give it to chipsaway to paint the whole panel, any smart repairer worth their salt will be able to do a smaller repair and blend such that it can't be seen.
As above though should polish out no problem as you can't feel it with your fingernail :smiley:

Spoke with a lad from RGK detailing after I forwarded him a photo also, said he would be able to do it for 60 quid. Much less hassle doing it that way, i dont think id like the pressure involved if i f*cked it up on my prized possession! Gives me some confidence in seeing the job you did on the Freelander Jbirchy, impressive. Fancy fixing mine for 40 lol
