Title: G60 / VR6 clutch conversion done today, but....
Post by: MoMartin on 01 July 2014, 17:38
Okay, so me and a friend did the g60 / vr6 conversion today, (He has a pit/ all the right tools) all went well, but as soon as i took it out for a drive i noticed that there's more engine noise than there used to be. Has anyone else experienced this / is it common?

Thats my only problem (if it is a problem), I'm loving how light the clutch is now though.

Cheers, Mo

some people report a little chatter on idle, put the ECS kit on mine with the lighter flywheel, got a bit more noise, but some of that is probably because of the uprated engine and dogbone mounts, has got quieter over time,

Mine seems to make more noise when at about 3000 rpm, i don't really mind the sound, as it makes the car sound a bit more throaty, but i just wanted to ask around incase its something i've done wrong.

Cheers, Mo

I run a 13lb flywheel as part of the spec stage 3 kit on my 20vt and there's no chatter, pleasantly surprised

So what I'm experiencing is pretty normal then?

Seems so, luck of the draw it seems, my previous setup was the vr6/g60 and it was just like oem, only difference was a lighter clutch pedal.

I haven't noticed any additional noise with mine, saying that the turbo spools quite loud on mine anyway so I doubt I would

Strange how it can be luck of the draw, i guess everything is slightly different though.

and you would definitely notice it dalo, well on my car it certainly made a difference.

Most my mates run stage 3 or stage 3+ clutch kits from spec and I run the stage 3, some of us get a lot of chatter and others get nothing, I'm starting to think it's down to whether you go for the aluminium or steel flywheel but I didn't think the g60 flywheel was aluminium. When you refer to more engine noise do you mean clutch chatter?

mine is definitely steel

I think its clutch chatter, it cant be much else if its just had a clutch replacement surely

What do you think about the ECS kit, my clutch is on it's last legs and I've been looking at these. I'm thinking of the 14lbs lightened version.

I like it, lighter than standard, I have the 14lb version, very small amount of chatter on idle after fitting but barely noticeable now.

Have you noticed using noticeably more fuel? What's it like at keeping speed too?

Not noticed any difference on fuel unless i've got my lead lined trainers on
Drives exactly the same, just with a lighter clutch
