Title: RNS-510 which one?

Just put a deposit down on a 59 Plate Candy White DSG GTi, the car comes with the RCD-310 Headunit from the factory which I'd like to upgrade to the RNS-510 by retrofitting it.

I'm quite happy to do this & I have found loads of information about how to go about it, but when searching for the RNS-510 unit itself there are just so many of them, all with different numbers & variations.

So my question is this, if I'm not worried about the hassle of retro fitting DAB & all I want is just the RNS-510 unit itself, what is the 'best' or most up to date version of the RNS-510 I should be looking for?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Post by: dubber36 on 27 June 2014, 16:06: I think that as long as you get an LED version and make sure it has a star button in the top right corner, you won't go far wrong.

Post by: golfhappy on 27 June 2014, 23:37: Mines a "P" version and the laser info on the sticker says it was born in 2013. No problems with it. Hasn't got DAB and cost £480 off ebay. Pluged and played no Vag com tweaks.

Post by: mcmaddy on 28 June 2014, 07:32: I'm surprised it didn't need coding especially for the nav directions in the MFD. Maybe your car had an rns fitted before and the previous owner didn't undo the coding. Buy the very best you can afford and make sure it's a genuine model on eBay not a unit that has been upgraded, oh and make sure you get a genuine radio card with the code on. The dab units are great but as dubber mentioned a genuine p unit (last ones I think prior to dab) with led screen and star button is the one to try for.

Post by: p3asa on 28 June 2014, 10:49: Unless I had been on a forum like this I would never have known the directions are on the MFD as well so I wonder how many folk have actually upgraded to a RNS510 thinking it works?

Post by: golfhappy on 29 June 2014, 13:36: I knew about the compass in the mfd from having a Seat supercopa, never did tweak it for this in the golf. Didn't really like that feature.
