Title: Pinking
Post by: chris_virginie on 20 October 2003, 22:26
Filled the car with regular unleaded from Esso. First time I have filled it and guess what - its pinking now. Have only done about ten miles but am worried. Have I put in the wrong fuel? Have been told to add some octane booster to get round it . Any experience anyone?

According to the owners manual, the minimum should be RON98 petrol. I think normal unleaded is RON95. Which probably explains the pinking! Think I'll syphon as much as I can into one of my other cars (a Skoda!) then add some booster then stick to Optimax(even though Optimax is enhanced RON 95) . Spose I might give BP Ultimate a bash as the missus works for them!

Put some octane booster in, or just top the tank up with some super or optimax.

I know I am being a girl but  having done some research I dont think any of them have ever been proven to work(unless you know different). The tank is full so can' top it up. Would feel happier draining it and filling the Fabia up with it.Poor thing! After that its Optimax or Ultimate for me.

Don't load the engine too much while the car drinks the fuel.
