Title: Centre caps corrosion or something else?

Last week I had my alloys refurbed. Today I've notice that all 4 centre caps have some strange white chewing gum type thing on them, its white and flacky but appears to have eaten in to the cap and wont simply brake off. What would this be? Why would it suddently appear a few days after having alloys done?

What sort of wheels? What sort of center caps?

The chances are it is what is most commonly referred to as white worm. Many people have had them replaced under warranty on newer cars as replacement caps are the only cure. One of the main causes is too much wheel cleaner.

If they are the 65mm diameter ones that are on most cars theses days, you can either buy a set off ebay for £10 that even tho' purport to be genuine, will be just as bad in 6 months, Or buy a genuine set from the dealers or TPS for around £25. I bought a genuine set over 3 years ago and they still look like new.

Your description sounds like some sort of sealer holding something together!
