I have a 99 mk4 2litre 8v GTI and as it's been said before the preformance isn't exactly breath taking. Does anyone have or has had one of these and can recommend a few tweaks like remapping or air filters etc..That will give me a bit more power

Top Tip
Buy a 1.8t

Grr i hate that answer, i bought my 2.0 as i couldnt afford to buy a 1.8t or insure it  but i like mine, few years back at my old job i had to drive a Audi A4 1.8T to the petrol garage and i gave it some stick, my god it was quick!! loved it but also thought good job i did buy the 2.0 because with my "heavy right foot" a 1.8T would prob end up smashed up and me dead!!!

mines a slow jobby too, you can do bits but it depends on your budget!!, im currently sorting the ride height/handling on mine (well low ) and once thats done and xmas is outta the way im sorting me engine... local geeze and top chap that had a stall at e38 should be able to rumble me up something different, but im splashing cash..

Whatever power you have you always want more and you get used to it too quickly.
But if I had a bit more spare cash at the moment I would really like to get my turbo remapped.....mainly because I was blown away by a Renault Clio sport the other day :embarassed:

I have a 99 mk4 gti (2litre 8v) and now i think i bought the wrong car then. Just as i've got it sitting the way I want it. A few small changes and 19inch wheels. So I've got no preformance and crap mpg too. Put in £49 the other day and got 300miles. Thats not driving too quick. If I'm steady i can get the fuel computer to give an average of 30mpg, but thats being very steady. Filled her up again £49 and I'm sitting at half a tank with 102 miles doneÂÂÂ

They do seem to be quite thirsty. I thought the fuel computer on my girlfriends car was on the blink, as no matter how light you are on the throttle I cant get it to go above 30.1MPG.
I managed to get 40.5MPG out of my Turbo this week (most of the garages round my way ran out of unleaded)

mine does seem to be quite thursty sometimes, like i'll cruise down the motorway for say 100miles and it'll drink loads, then on the return journey it'll hardly drink any.. my cars wierd like that lol :undecided:

Turbo it ! http://www.orz-motorsport.com/index12.html
( Cheaper to buy an 18T :undecided:)

To be honest I'll have to do something. I've seen a few turbo engines for sale for around £700. But then it's getting someone to do the work. Do yous know anyone who specialises in that sort of thing. Another option was to just buy something quick Rx7, mr2 turbo, skyline and just buy small run around for during the week.

i managed to get around 127bhp on my old golf 2l 8v and everyone was shocked that such a slow car could make that much hp mind you i spent thousands better of doing an engine conversion
-
Yes it seem that the money i can spend in relation to the bhp increase it will give isn't really worth it. Probably best changing car or engine coversion. Seen a few 18turbo and dti engines for about £600-£700. And that would give me more bhp in standard form than what i have now. So if I wanted I could tweak even more.

Is it possible to have a turbo put on??? and where and how much???
My mate wants to put on his 8v...
-
you could prob supercharge it easier than fitting fitting a turbo..... there is a kit you can buy, think ive seen it advertised on awesome gti's website, but theres many afirm that would carry out a job like that for you.... but i think youd have to be prepared to dig deep into them pockets!!!, but it would be interesting to see something different from the norm....

I have to say the only reason i went for this model was insurance! Its a lovely looking car however I have to say I'm abit disappointed with the performance and I'm sick of seeing the petrol station forecourt. lol I would definitely say this is not the pick of the MK4 range

A few months ago in 150 mode, I would have been saying the same thing. I came accross a 172 about a month ago, & totally blitzed it.
I can't recommend a re-map enough!
