Gentlemen
Can you tell me please is the Golf R32 engine an uprated version of the old VR6 engine?
Is the R32 engine really prone to timing chain wear and failure?
Thank you
Jumbojim

Yes both it and the V5 can suffer timing chain issues

Is it difficult and expensive to replace?

Yes both engine out in real terms as it is located the gearbox end.

I'll put a Mk6 Golf R on the wish list then instead!

If the engines timing chain / chains are worn, will it be shown up by rattles or chain slap noises?
What I am really asking is how do you know if the chains are badly worn?
Thanks
