Title: Front bumper ETKA question
Post by: dubber36 on 21 June 2014, 16:35
Can someone with access to ETKA or other VW parts references help answer a question for me please?

Do all Bluemotion Golf's have headlight washers? I've looked at loads on Auto Trader and they all seem to have them. Due to a coming together with an out of control old lady in a Nissan Pixsomethingorother this morning, my GT is in need of a new front bumper. Fortunately nothing noticeable unless you know where to look, but it is bent out of shape and needs replacing all the same. I saw this as an opportunity to have a Bluemotion bumper fitted instead, but they all seem to have headlight washers, which mine doesn't. I don't fancy having pretend ones like halogen equipped GTI/D's have, so was hoping that they also did them without.

The reg number of a Bluemotion for reference is FG10 VVU

I think crashed is a bit dramatic in this instance.

Spoilsport!  'Course there is an alternative interpretation -  but that would be crude and I'm a lady.  How old did you say she was??

As far as I know all the bumpers have the cutouts whether there are washers fitted or not.

I'll ask you again, what has a winter pack got to do with anything?

If you can tell me that all MK6 Golf Bluemotions come with a winter pack, therefore washers, that will be of some use, as I'll know that I can't buy a Bluemotion front bumper without washer holes in it. The fact that your GTD has halogen headlights and a winter pack has no relevance to my question. Or am I missing something?

Actually not sure now, just read your first post again and you say your GT didn't have them, maybe as you also said the GTI/GTD bumper has the cutouts.
Is the bluemotion bumper the same as the ED35 bumper, maybe the cutouts are always on them as well.

The Bluemotion has the same flared bits at the bottom as the ED35, but the grilles and foglight apertures  are the same as S/SE/Match/GT's.

ETKA lists 19 different front bumper covers for the MK6 golf

Dubber36, link below is to a mk6 Golf price list from 2011, which includes details of spec and options for each model.

I know that VW brochures aren't renowned for their accuracy of content, but the spec for the mk6 Bluemotion model doesn't include headlamp washers as standard, headlamp washers weren't available as a stand-alone option (only as part of the winter pack) and the winter pack wasn't an option on the Bluemotion model. So I'm concluding that no Bluemotion models had headlamp washers, even though the front bumper seems to suggest otherwise.

I've had a quick look at mk6 Bluemotion Golfs on Motors.co.uk and all the photos show the headlamp washer cut-outs. GT and Match models with Bluemotion technology don't have the headlamp washer customer-outs, unless these have been specc'd with the optional winter pack, but these models don't have the Bluemotion model-specific front bumper.

19???

Apart from the obvious, S-GT spec, with or without fog lights/washers, Bluemotion, GTI/D, ED35, .:R, what other differences can there be? Are diesel engined cars different to petrol to accommodate different intercoolers?

This is looking like it's going to be more bother than it's worth, because as we all know, VW will be no help at all. If a part doesn't match the chassis number, their computer says no and that's an end to it.

I'm guessing different bumper skins for headlight washers/no headlight washers.
Different again for front parking sensors (holes on the front)...both with/without headlight washers.
Didderent again for Park Assist (holes front and side)...both with/without headlight washers.

So there's standard Golf with/without headlight washers/parking sensors/park assist.
Then there's GTI/GTD with/without headlight washers/parking sensors/park assist...
R with/without headlight washers/parking sensors/park assist...
Not forgetting Ed35 with/without headlight washers/parking sensors/park assist...
And Bluemotion if it's different again.

Oh yeah, I forgot about parking sensors.

So back to my original question, out of the 19, is one of them a Bluemotion without washer and parking sensor holes?

Confusing or what!  It would be less hassle to buy a new car.

Wow confusing, I spend my days looking at the different specs of B787's this makes that look easy !

I'm sure the Ed35 came with headlamp wash as xenons were standard as well as parking assist. So only one bumper for this model.

Feel free to shoot me down if other Ed35 owners have a different bumpers.

With Park Assist? I didn't know any Golf came standard with Park Assist...you learn something new every day!

Don't forget, bumper skins are worldwide...so just because it wasn't standard UK spec, doesn't mean it won't be listed in ETKA as available.

The more I think about this, the more inclined I am to just have a standard replacement skin. After all, I'll come to sell it at some point and a buyer will see that it has the wrong bumper on it. If I saw that, whatever story the seller told me, I would still be questioning why it had had a new bumper. What untold damage was still lurking beneath?

With the plain ones there is a part number 5K0 807 217 BM GRU

Is BM related to blue motion ?

The only other plain bumper part numbers are

5K0 807 217 BL GRU
5K0 807 217 CG GRU

Ess_three, when I say park assist, I'm not relating to that auto park, wheel twirling system that I've seen being promoted. I'm talking about 4 circle parking sensors in the bumper relaying audio and visual assistance onto the rns510.

Ahh...technically that's just the plain-Jane parking sensors.

Park Assist is the auto-parking system, and the front bumper on that has additional sensor holes on the side of the front bumper...so the bumper skins are different.

Headlight washers form part of the Winter pack, along with heated front seats, a low washer fluid warning light and automatically heated windscreen washer jets. Optional on all models except S and BlueMotion.

To answer my own original question, it seems that all Bluemotion bumpers come with dummy washers, just like GTI/Ds.

Thank you all for your input.

You not going to bother changing it then?
