I had a remap done the other day, and when you give it some wellie, it reaches about 4/5000 rpm and there is a tinny metallic rattle coming from the back of the engine. (towards the cab)
any ideas what it could be? I never noticed it before it was remapped.
The noise does not effect the performance.
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like the propeller on the turbo :lipsrsealed:
-
Put a vid of it up?
Could it be hear shield?
-
I think it would be the heat shield
-
Like i said, it doesn't effect the performance, so if a propeller was broken , I would notice problems with performance, and I would of surely noticed it before anyway? And I would notice when the turbo first spools correct? At first spool it's absolutely fine.
I have tried a video but it wasn't very clear so I will try again tomorrow.

It might be pinking which could be serious if left.
-
I can almost guarantee its your heat shield exact same thing started happening to mine once i had it remapped took the heat shield off and no longer any rattling
-
Ive had a play with the heatshield today, found one of the rings what holds the shield one was really loose, so ive tried my best to make it hold a bit better,
out of curiosity, what is pinking, how is it checked? ive had the water pump and timing belt done only a couple of thousand miles ago.
thanks for the advice

pinking is pre detonation, ie your mix is too hot/lean with not enough fuel. The mixture ignites before the spark as the cylinder temperatures are sky high leading to all sorts of problems and can result in a nice bit of piston soup if it's really bad
-
I think it was the heatshield, managed to secure it back into position,
if it continues i think i will just remove it.
thanks for all the help

told ya
-
does it come off in sections?
-
I'd leave it on, or if you insist on ripping it out then make a heat shield out of something else decent.
Your turbo can get hot enough to glow (and if you remapped your car you're obviously going to give it some now and again... or always )
But its their for a reason and protects all kinds of things from the heat! You know how close your downpipe is to your steering rack etc
