Hi Guys,
I changed the clutch in my 2l 8v golf a couple of months ago and ever since I have had problems with the speedo and fuel gauge. The speedo doesn't work at all, and the fuel gauge fluctuates when the tank is less than half full - I have changed the fuel sender which didn't fix the issue. After I put the gearbox back on, I forgot to plug the speedo sensor (or what I think is the speedo sensor) back in. It's now plugged back in and the speedo still doesn't work at all. I read a post on another forum describing exactly the same issue but I don't quite follow his description of the speed sensor.
These are photos of the speed sensor on the diff housing:

Sorry for the rubbish quality
This was the forum post I was reading:
'A few weeks ago my speedometer and odometer stopped working, the fuel gauge would fluctuate while turning with less than a full tank, and the engine code P0501 was thrown (Vehicle Speed Sensor problem). Last night I replaced the VSS after pulling out the air filter housing to get at it, with no luck. All the same problems. Actually a faster way to check if the VSS is functioning correctly is to turn the car's electrical on, and spin the pin inside the VSS with your hand - you should see the speedometer move a slight bit. If not, then the VSS or wiring is your problem.
However if the speedometer does move with this trick, it might be plastic speedometer drive gear (part #095409193A), which the VSS screws into and goes into the transmission (pictured below). That's what my problem was.'
Thanks for any help in advance
