I am fitting coilovers at weekend.
I bought some front top mounts and bearings.
Basically been told its best to replace those plus means I dont need a spring compressor then?
Do I need anything for the rears too? or any bolts for anything?
-
New rear top mounts would be a good move
-
might as well replace the rears since you can then just chuck the lot instead of farting around removing the old ones.
fronts are advisable since you're in there anyway. I've never beefed spring compressors when doing coil overs before. if you need to just wind down the collar til there's no tension anyway.
-
Dont need spring compressors unless your removing the front springs your removing the whole front suspension units.
rear springs can be more tricky to get out cause there still uner a little preassure, but just stick a bar in there and you can leaver them out easy enough.
-
drop the beam down and those rear springs will just fall out...
-
Not sure what I am looking for on ebay for rear top mounts I can use. Anybody have a link to ones I could use?

I just fitted new jom coilovers few weeks ago, hardest part was removing stock struts from the hub we had to use an air chisel to get them out
- I was told to re-use the STOCK inner slim strut nut which is much different to the one supplied, Unless your coilovers come with a slim one
that means taking ur stock spring off which is very easy but you need an air gun to do it my way
- even if you change the rear top mounts, ur still gotta remove the old ones because you need the bump stop and dust cover but it is simple
simple way to remove stock spring http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ikPsNtzHHo

f**k this. Its getting more complicated the more I look at it!
Dont have an air gun

Hmm its possible without as many will probably tell you, but ill be honest i would not like to do that job without air tools id of been there all weekend
-
Tempted to just but the rear top mounts and let garage throw them on
-
Just looking at this still and some people mentioned bumpstops. Not a great idea what they are or what they do but pretty sure mine are knackered. So presume its best replacing those too?
-
Its worth watching a video on fitting the coilovers mate everything will be clearer then, its all i did but obviously they dont tell ya the problems ur run into but iv pretty much told u everything that the video dont, bosh it

I've never used an air gun to do mine. If I had to I'd hold it still with a allen/hex socket and do it up (slowly and painfully) with a spanner.
-
There's no need for an air gun at all, my bump stops are chopped right down anyway.
-
ok thanks so would you just reuse bolts too?
Almost got my head around it!
-
Yeah, bolts are fine to reuse
