Hi Guys, i'm new on here so just thought i'd pop by and say Hi.
Me and my boyfriend have been thinking about getting a golf for a while. On sunday, we went to a VW garage to look at a Mk6 Golf GTD, after talking to the sales man (which also happens to be a friend) we ended up ordering a brand new Golf GTi in Tornado red. We've gone for the 3 door manual and the extras we have gone for are the beautiful 19" Santiago Wheels and the Keyless entry. We were very close to ordering the Performance Pack aswell but then decided against it due to the added cost and we're not really planning on modding the car, probably only a remap at a later date. We've been told that the car should be due early September which means it will be on the 64 plate, which i'm happy about but i'm disappointed as i have to wait about 10 whole weeks for it!! :undecided:
Just thought i'd see what people opinions are on theirs. Whats the sound like? engine wise, and sound system.
I've mostly had diesels so i'm looking forward to having a petrol and hearing that exhaust pop
It would be nice to hear from you to hear your stories and opinions too
Sam

Wouldn't mention that too much around here.... some of us have waited 20+ weeks......

Ouch!! Sorry to hear that!!
Do you think I won't get mine in 10 weeks then? I haven't been given an actual date yet. We've just been told around early September.

Thats a question none of us can answer.... all up to dealer allocation and shipping routes etc...
If the dealer said 10 weeks I'd think it would be there abouts

Ok. Fingers crossed then. I can't wait! Never had a brand new car before, i can't wait for the smell Lol.
-
No matter how long you wait its worth it

Thats exactly what I was hoping someone would say!!!

I was told 3 months for delivery but waited just on 6 months last year when the GTI was launched. However the wait is more than worth it. I have Dynaudio in my GTI and once you break it in the sound is sweet and loud... very loud. I have heard others state the Dynaudio in the Mk6 was better but this is my first golf, so I cannot make a comparison. The sound of the engine, or actuator under the dash sounds pretty good and fairly gruff but as with the sound system it is down to personal tastes and some have found it a bit too false sounding. Personally I am happy with the sound of both Dynaudio and actuator/engine, especially when you dump the car in to sport. But I can relate to others when i say I would prefer the real sound of the engine rather than a digital sound.
The performance of the car is something else. I think it actually goes quicker than 6.4secs 0 to 60mph. The speed of acceleration in Sport is license losing. The car is so composed it feels effortless until you look at your speedo and realise you are going far quicker than you thought. Word of advice set the digital display to the speedo setting you will need it.
I also had Performance pack fitted on my car and it was worth every penny. The e-diff has been tested on a fair few corners and I have to say it is 'witchcraft' in Jeremy Clarksons words. It really does allow the car to take corners at a very high speed without feeling like you are going to plant it in a hedge. I used to own a Civic Type-R championship white with a mechanical LSD and the e-diff which is also mechanical with extras is noticeably better than the Civic's LSD.
The finish of the interior is the best of any car I have owned. The Nav Pro is fantastic and the large screen adds that little bit extra to the overall impression of the car from inside.
All in all great car. However I would advise to protect your diamond cut wheels as soon as you get the car with some C5 wheel armour (GTechniq) and protect the paintwork with either regular polishing or the conserver provided by the same manufacturer as the paint protection applied by your franchise garage i.e (I have GardX paint protection on my car). Yet again some would say it is a gimmick, but so far since last October the finish of my paintwork is as if new.
It is a great car, enjoy it.

Gti without performance pack is a crime! VW should of made it standard. Also second hand many will insist on it.
-
Thank you for your reply Brenbo, your making me very jealous that you already have yours. I suppose i could understand your long wait if it was when it was first launched. We thought about going for the Dynoaudio but then we listened to the standard sound and we were more than impressed. It sounds like your very happy with your Gti. I wish i could have had all the extras, but couldn't unfortunately

I wish they did make it standard, although I still think i will be more than happy. I'm coming from a Audi A3 2.0tdi 04 plate, so its definitely gonna be a BIG step up.
Is the brake upgrade worth it? Is it bigger callipers aswell as bigger discs?
We only ordered it Sunday, so apparently we still have a couple of days to amend
-
Unsure if they are bigger calipers, but they look like the 6 pots from the mk6 Golf R. I suspect the only difference on the calipers is the lack of GTI logo.
I am very happy with my Golf GTI. I suspect the only time I will change it is when a hardcore version such as edition 40 comes out or even the MK8. The Edition 40 would have to be a big step up in performance for me to consider it though. The current Golf is insane with e-diff fitted. Although Golf 400R I may consider if I won the lottery.
-
Oooo Edition 40!!
My boyfriend had the mk5 edition 30 and he loved it to bits, i'm guessing we may be swapping our car when the Ed40 comes out lol.
-
Not heard much about the edition 40 yet. But there is stuff online and this forum about the Golf 400R. The recent videos look really impressive. But it will cost the earth and I can relate to what some are saying about the colour scheme.
Just to wet your appetite further the current Golf GTI feels a lot quicker than my previous car the Civic Type-R championship white which was only supposed to be 0.2 seconds slower. It feels more like whole seconds slower than fractions.
I have also seen a tornado red GTD with Santiago's fitted and looks the nuts. I do prefer my Oryx White paint work but the tornado red was my next choice of colour if they didn't do Oryx White.
PS: if you worry about chips in your paint work I would recommend trying Chipex. I have used it on my car and it does a better job than touch up sticks. the best solution is smart repair but Chipex is a fairly good cheap home brew alternative.
-
We love the tornado red, and white was going to be our next choice, they both look gorgeous.
We got SuperGuard with ours, it was thrown in with the purchase, apparently worth over £600, don't know how true that is though. It will cover the exterior and interior.
Yeah my boyfriend used Chipex on his White Focus RS, and he said it was very good and would definitely use again.
-
If you have superguard then I would advise checking the superguard website for conserver and cleaning products if you are not in to polishing and waxing your car. I have used the conserver for GardX and cannot fault it. The water just beads off.
Until i bought my GTI I was unaware you had to keep the GardX, or in your case SDuperguard coating topped up to keep it looking great. I apply the conserver on my GTI every 2 - 4 weeks. It works a treat.
Enjoy car guys, you will not regret it
-
Apparently we don't need to do anything. We can just wash as normal (and wax if we want to). We'll find out more about it nearer the time.
-
that's what I thought, but apparently it may not be the case. My franchise dealer told me the same and GardX is an equivalent to your Superguard.
However if you read the website it does state up to 3 years without top up. Though what happens after 3 years?
-
None of the dealer supplied paint sealants will last much longer than 3 months if you're lucky. Significantly less given the way most of these are applied.
If you didn't pay, great. Behave as if nothing has been done, wash, polish and wax at your pleasure.
FWIW most dealers retail the sealant at ~300quid. You can buy it for less than 30 yourself. That said, there are loads and loads of longer lasting sealants available for less money.
-
If I lived in the Pyrenees or Alps I would have had the PP. If you aren't going on track or won't be driving like the driver in this clip I don't think you'll miss it. He says the standard traction control is OK.
I'm happy with the standard sound system which I think is pretty good.

So...... We ended up adding the performance pack to our order. Ooopsie lol.
-
You will not regret it.
-
Good shout....
-
Better update your banner then
-
Haha yeah I know. I'll get on it tonight. Hehe.
-
Totally made the right decision! This should be the first option above all else!
-
We went for our test drive today. Unfortunately it wasn't the exact model we've ordered. It was silver 5dr and DSG, but still…..it was AMAZING!!!! Luckily it has the performance pack and oh my…..its handled amazingly well. I didn't actually drive as i didn't feel comfortable with the DSG but my boyfriend did and he loved it. He threw it into the corners and it handled like a dream. Definitely glad we added the performance pack now.
I CANT WAIT TO GET IT!!!!!!!
-
Good to see you enjoying the e-diff like many others have done so before you. I live in Cornwall and the B roads down here are perfect for the e-diff.
-
Hi everyone I'm Sam's boyfriend. Thought id show my face on here  Absolutely loved the car yesterday. Not a fan of DSG but still gave me a great feel, It helped that the salesman is a mate so could do what i wanted really haha. Can't wait to get it now!
It would be interesting to see if you can retrofit any other options or activate stuff via vagcom like you can with the older models. Has anyone tried anything like that yet?

Welcome btw
There's a whole thread running in Vagcom mods. Just use the search at the top.

we received our order number today so signed onto the tracker  hopefully they'll get building soon! does anyone know how long it takes until they start building and how do we find out the build week that i keep seeing people talk about? EXCITED! :D

Hello,
So if you didn't order it with the Dynaudio sound system then I recommend fitting it with the VW original part Helix audio reciever and subwoofer, from the dealer. It fits into the spare wheel slot so you would have to live without a spare wheel ( you get the flat tire repair kit as standard).
I have this system and it really improves on the sound of the original audio system. More bass especially.
Have fun :)
-
Oooo! We'll see what the standard sound system is like and then maybe look into that :p
-
Yeah we did look into that but after listening to a normal system we decided that it was enough for us. I'd rather have a spare wheel that a tube of gunk to ruin a perfectly good tyre that could be repaired. But thanks anyway :)
