VW Driver mag dropped through the letterbox this morning. Was pleasantly surprised to see my car had made it into the GTI Special edition - page 54
A rather nice grey ED35 in there too

It was going well 'til I got the the list of detailing products that instantly sent me for an afternoon nap!!
Detailing threads have that effect on me here too!!
My copy popped thru the letterbox today too.
Well done Fraulein Booth, nice photos and car and write up too (well some of it!!!)
I always was under the impression your car was an Ed35 before for some reason.
Maybe because a late spec GTI with leather and xenons (&19's) is more prevalent on Ed35's on here?
I must pay more attention in class.
-
A good little write up. It is nice to see your own car in print isn't it?
The magazine often like to see photos of the owners as well. Maybe they didn't print the one you sent, or thought that the reflection of you in the front bumper just above the fog light grille would suffice. And you being an keep photographer as well.
-
Oh oh is that mine?? Postie better bring my copy tomorrow!!
-
congrats and a great keep sake after you have said goodbye to it
-
Cheers guys.

Yes, Stevie it is and it looks great mate

Haha, have you had the magnifying glass out dubber? I even wore black clothes to minimise reflections. Didn't submit a photo of myself, not my style, but if you are absolutely desperate to see one, there's a profile pic at the top of my flickr page

Sorry to have induced a nap Exonian. In my defence I was asked to expand on the detailing info and include products I used, and some of us weirdos like that stuff
congrats and a great keep sake after you have said goodbye to it
Thanks wigit, it is a nice little keepsake

Great write up booth 11 I'm going to have to drop mine off because yours simply puts mine to shame. Can you do me a favour and photograph the hole mag saves me buying it. I'm not tight really lol and I've not even mentioned the sponge
-
Great write up Rebecca and well I'm sure I've complimented those pics of your car already :nerd:
Love how the quote they picked was about people shying away from black cars (that's me now) :)
Must be great having your car featured
-
Looks great in print and picture , you must be pleased.

A mk7 R will never look that good
-
Funny you should say that snoopy my wife saw one parked up in the local supermarket and she said it looked plain.
-
A mk7 R will never look that good
I know! The mk6 is a better looking car with nicer lines, and whenever I see a mk7 I think that, but then I thought the same moving from a mk5  I'll make it look nice
@charlie - buy your own magazine, you tight git
@seabrook - someone has to fight the corner for black cars
Thanks all for your comments. It is lovely to see your car in print and if you get the chance to do it next year, go for it.

When I'm surveying building I do my best to make sure I'm not reflected in any windows. I don't always get it right tho'.

Nah, I'm not that fussed.

Even using a polariser filter (which I did) you sometimes can't avoid it!

Ooh, a withering retort  Glad to hear it.

 Just got my copy through the door, my car is on page 53
And its nearly as clean as Rebecca's!

Hey Phil, didn't know that was a forum member's car. Congrats on the article. Your car looks amazing and I think you just edge it on the cleanliness front

I completely agree with you Rebecca its a nice record to have with the car and Neil the editor is a nice guy to deal with as well.

Neils old ED35 gets into one of the GTI International add shots too.
Are any of you lot with featured cars bringing them to Inters?

No, 'fraid not. Am Canterbury bound for next few months. My other half is just about to start weeks of radiotherapy and chemo - tough time ahead
Just had to cancel our summer holiday too, but not important in the great scheme of things.
The VW Driver mag article was a welcome distraction for a day. Hope I haven't bummed everyone out.
-
Sorry to hear Rebecca, sending best wishes to both of you
-
Mine came through today, great reading everyone's write ups. Cars look great in the magazine.

What a tough time you are having! All the very best wishes to you and your family. I went through this with my father. He was having treatment at Canterbury, they are a very good and caring team there. Keep posting when you get time, I'm sure the VW family on here will still want to see your gleaming car.

Thanks Peter. Hope your father is well now.
He's got private medical cover so treatment for chemo is at the Chaucer but doing the radiotherapy at Canterbury Hospital (no private machines in Kent yet) so good to hear your father received good care there
I'll still be around on here. My car is far from gleaming at the moment :embarrassed:

car looks fantastic! Wish mine came up with that shine :embarrassed:. Have the same color and the slightest rain kills the shine, (muddy rain water usually)
All the best with your other half, really puts things into perspective!

Thanks very much Chris  It definately puts things into perspective but it's good to have an interest to turn to when things get a bit much.
I was chuffed to get the car featured in the mag, it's really nice to see it in print, makes all that effort worthwhile.
How's your motor? Still enjoying it and done anything to it lately, except clean the pita sandy rain off it, which, as you say, is a killer on black car?

yeah booth getting obsessed I need to have something in the post all the time for it
put some wind deflectors on other day, think it looks good on our colour with making it look "chavy" will get some pics eventually! really wanting to change the air intake system with a cone or just a total remap etc.. but insurance for me will rocket as I am only 21

Nah, no further mods, only done minor ones before. I fear if I started, I'd not be able to stop and my bank account would be rapidly drained.
I'm not gonna comment on the wind deflectors
Have you tried getting any insurance quotes from the specialists on here (insurance section), at least give you an idea of the likely cost.

yerh they wouldnt even insure me most of them on the standard car un mapped, and think that greenlight wanted over 1.5k.. ridiculous..

An odd thread revival I know and nothing to do with cars, but
Many of you posted kind words about my partner's cancer diagnosis in the summer.
Today he got the all clear, with the joyful words "you are now disease free'"

I think so too  Thanks wigit
Better get him something though too  I would've have taken him out for a slap up meal, but he's not yet regained his sense of taste (tonsil cancer) so waste of time atm. Poor man hasn't tasted food for 5 months.

Thanks Steven, it is the best Christmas pressie
I'm finally going to get around to emailing that chap at JCB Medway this week. Though if evo1986's recent estimate of lead-in of 32+ weeks  is accurate, it'd make sense to order new year for Sept delivery. Might drop evo an email too, see what px price I might get.
-
I'm really pleased for you and your family Rebecca ! What fantastic news. You can really enjoy that family holiday in the sun next month.

Fantastic news, now as others have said get the R ordered, I did back in September, and still waiting a build date. You only live once so best enjoy it, and judging by the cleanliness of your Mark 6, VW driver will be back to feature the R once you take delivery

Like a kid waiting for santa
Metallic blue, 19" wheels, reversing camera and leather (not nappa), seen a couple around and drool every time I see one. Managed to keep it a secret from my 15 year old son who is a petrol head, and arranged with the dealership to do some special handover. Suspect it will be a March delivery as dealership emailed to say build week 4 currently.
You decided on a spec? I bet the trade in on yours will be superb, unless you sell to a forum member who appreciates the car and the love it's had

Nice spec Neil  Bet your son will be over the moon and nice to make an occasion of it for him (and you). My daughter's only 8 but already a little petrol head, wonder where she gets that from  I'm not bothered about a handover ceremony, prefer low key affair in the back of the car park
I didn't like the nappa so also going for normal leather, but full spec will be:
5 door DSG
Deep Black Pearl
19" Pretorias
Dynaudio
Vienna Leather
DCC
Discover Nav
Rear cam
Keyless
High beam assist
Unsure what trade-in I'll get. Will be making enquiries this week. Great discount on new usually equals average/low px price on old, but it's the cost to change that really counts, so we'll see. Mk6 is in great condition, apart from my kerbed alloys :embarrassed:
A lot of conflicting info on lead-in times but if the rumoured 32+ weeks is likely then I might as well go for Sept 2015 delivery, rather than getting it June/July. Long wait but hopefully it will be worth it

Nice spec, I keep looking at black cars, knowing I would get over obsessive about keeping it clean.
My trade in was higher than expected, bearing in mind I have nearly 61k on the clock, but dealership promised to offer a great deal so cost to change was too good to be true, plus heavy discount on the R. Need to start looking at insurance quotes as GTI is so cheap to insure it ridiculous.
I also have a kerbed alloy (felt sick when it occurred) and all my fault. My wife said "thank god it was you and not me"
If the delivery dates stay true mine will be around 28 weeks, so your estimate providing things don't change will be spot on.
