i would guess you have an AGU so go in to can gateway and change the soft coding to remove the airbag light. your new clocks are looking for the airbag module over CAN which it sounds like your car doesn't have.

with vagcom go in to the can gateway module (address 19) and click soft coding. it will probably be something like 0006 i think it needs to be changed to 0004. when you hover the mouse cursor over the coding field it should pop up the suggested coding anyway.

do I need to use the pin for the clocks first to let me make the changes to the soft coding

no you dont need the pin for soft coding. quick google shows my memory isn't amazing

http://uk-mkivs.net/topic/95233-cluster-coding-immo2-to-immo3-upgrade/

subtract 4 from the soft coding to remove airbag comms.

nope, just tells the cluster to stop looking for a can signal from the airbag module

Thanks topher, another question I have is for some reason the mpg figures dont change....one is stuck at 99.9 the other is blank and also MTE seems to go up and not down... Everything else seems to work

I'm sure Ray told me that the correct readings are dependant on the ECU you have with the AGU...

Mine all works fine on my '99 AGU, I have the 018 CG ECU

go in to engine with vagcom it shows the part number in the top left field, it will be something like 06A 906 018R, i think the 018CG is the canbus version.
