Title: mk2 tour 1.8
Post by: ChewD14 on 03 June 2014, 21:14
hi guuuys. looking to "modernise" my golf mk2 tour 1.8, i may seem like a bit of a newbie as i havent got a massive clue about engines etc, but yknow, gotta start somewhere!

just thinking about extending the gearstick, ive found a good few but none of them will fit according to ebay. tried searching other places but none seem to win, any ideas? (and yes ive tried vw heritage).

also, i havent seemed to find any speakers that would fit for it either, im going to need to replace them all, am i right in saying that they are vw manufactured?

heaters/blowers seem to be a bit crap too, is this something i have to just deal with or is it possible to fix them without taking the engine apart?

maybe just ,maybe thinking of getting her slightly lowered, only be a 10-25 ml, i hope this isnt going to be too much money! advice please?

by the way, how is it possible to upload pics onto posts?!

cheers guys!

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

Do you mean something like THIS (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-T4-GEAR-STICK-EXTENSION-/321188385590?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4ac851d336)?  Just an example.

Speaker sizes:

Fronts: 5.25"
Rears under parcel shelf supports are 6x4".

For lowering you can get away with just changing the springs as its only 25mm. Do a search and decide what brand suits you. Maybe look into a complete shock and spring kit.

May be easier to ask your local engineering firm to make you one. Just a bar with a thread.

Re; the heater blower/ heater. The heater blower is located just above the passenger footwell, inside the car so no need to go dismantling your engine to fix that! They aren't the most powerful of fans anyways, but do the job. If it's not blowing warm, hot air it could be the foam on the internals of the heater unit have perished. Bit of a ball ache to replace, but worth doing in preperation for the colder months of the year!!

If the heaters not getting hot, it could be down to the by-pass valve that the dealers retro fitted to relieve pressure in the system and prevent the matrix from exploding. Mine would never get warm, so I fitted a new matrix and took out the bypass valve, now it gets nice and toasty.

Have a look where the two coolant pipes go through the bulkhead from the engine bay and you'll see if the valve has been fitted. It looks like a proper afterthought, which is exactly what it was.
