Just spoke to a/c specialist who's gonna have a look tomoz but from my description he thinks compressor :-/
-
Compressors goosed this car hates me £500 for new one fitted and gased
-
£500!! What the heck!! It might be same problem as me..I wonder if the dealers will do it for me for free since I only got the car in January..
-
I thought this is a very common fault on the mk6 surely VW goodwill might be there? I know my sister on her mk5 got away with just the pressure switch failing. So new pressure switch and re-gas.

After 5 mins of being on my ac sounds like an old tractor, reported it to dealer to check our during last service and they said they couldn't find a problem with it. Is this noise the start of the problem?
-
I think I remember reading that a lot of owners who were having this problem were buying it off ebay.de as they were alot cheaper than in the uk.
-
Doesn't make a noise the guy did 3 tests he's an a/c specialist he says its goosed he will supply and fit for £500 the cheapest i saw was on ebay for £450ish the oem were £1400!!!

Guess yours is different model to these ones, typical they used different ones on different models.
German Ebay has some for sale like THIS ONE (http://www.ebay.de/itm/Klimakompressor-1K0820808A-Audi-Seat-Skoda-VW-/260935445185?pt=DE_Autoteile&hash=item3cc0f6eac1), ships to the UK as well.
Dealer price is £550.. Part No 1K0 820 808 AX

I had exactly this back in November, bad noise (which was compressor bearings), then VW found no gas in the system, then found a hole in the air con pipe work near manifold - there is metal clip which rub and eventually puts a hole in the pipe. See this link for full info, some good photos here: http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37299&page=2
I got it sorted under warranty by VW dealer, required new compressor, pipes and re-gas etc, would of cost £1072 with labour!
hope it's something else for you
-
Still has gas in it mate cheers tho

Just had my golf in to get checked, it is indeed compressor failure. From VW a £1200 Job, thankfully I still had warranty! In it goes this thursday to get fixed
-
Holy moly that's a fairly steep price, no good will from vw?

Aye, it was just a warranty job for me cos I've only had the car in since January! Not a penny to pay
-
I had one go on my mk5 gti that cost me £500 from an Indy so glad you had warranty  mind you that was a few years ago

The guy at the service desk said the compressor was £500 to buy alone! The remaining £700 was the labour price! Rip off
-
Sorry missed the warranty thing. Lucky.
-
Just got the car back. I now have a brand new air conditioning compressor, saved myself £1200! Fresh fresh conditioned air! The guy working at the service desk was even encouraging me to keep modding my car haa. Bad influence

I had two compressors replaced by vw for the same issue in my mk6 GT TDI.
In the end I got rid because I still had a metallic noise when the ac was on!
