Title: how do i get the display lcds like this (pic inside)

how can i do it?
Is it simple as turning the film on the lcds around?

Post by: thai-wronghorse on 30 May 2014, 13:02: First the display leds need changing then you need polarising film over them which reverses the black and colour. I was going to do them on mine before I decided to change car.

oh great. Were can i get hold of the lcd? I take it as they are the old type mk3 clocks?

Post by: thai-wronghorse on 30 May 2014, 16:42: Old clocks have 509T twist out bulbs behind the LCD so you should be able to just change the colour that way where as later clocks need fully stripping down and new LEDs soldering in like the link above shows.
I would imagine changing the film is the same procedure on both types though but don't quaote me on it as I;ve one ever tinkered with late clocks.

cant i fit the lcds from a mk4?

Post by: sharki786 on 31 May 2014, 18:09: Ive just taken the polarising film off, was abit hard to take off. I made a mistake of heating it up with misses hair dryer. By heating it up you will leave some glue on the lcd. I have cleaned both lcds up with white spirit. I remeber when i was young i used to take my calculator apart and flip the film over. I might go poind shop and buy a big cheap a$$ calculator and see if that works. By flipping the film around the lcd goes dark and number are colourless.

The screen is not dark if i put the glue side onto the lcd but if i rotate it the lcd becomes dark. Have they sent me the wrong kit? Also the instalation guide is about fitting plasma dials.

Post by: sharki786 on 13 June 2014, 13:50: Well i spoke with awesome and they said that the adhesive must be on the wrong side. So i need to send them back and they will sent me another set that they have on the shelf. Its funny how the adhesive is on the wrong side.

i know oh well never mind. I wasnt so sure if i was doing it right. But what i did was take the film off the lcd (so now the lcds will be blank) and then put the film on the way it ment to, but when i took the film off to stick it to the lcd it kept falling off only to realise that the glue is on the wrong side lol

Post by: sharki786 on 19 June 2014, 21:06: More BS!! Awesome sent more lcd reverse kit out to me and same problem. I have 2 sets of clocks 1 has the film removed from the lcd and other lcds aint been touched. The adhesive is on the wrong side. So i have to send them back again.
