Title: steady revs but rough idle
Post by: vwwvgolf on 27 May 2014, 15:33
hello [people

my abf will sometimes idle spot on at 900rpm and not move at all but the car seems to shudder and seems as if its idling roughly.
other times there is no issue what so ever.
 is this the ISV??
its not bad (yet) but just wanna know what could be wrong or going wrong

thanks

I would give the isv a clean mate, take off the hose, undo the Allen bolt holding it on and pull out, clean thoroughly with carb cleaner, if you can leave it connected up and clean with it buzzing away so it's more effective

I'd run a bottle of injector cleaner fluid through as well

what engine (code please) have you got?

1.8 aam, abs, adz are notorious for having broken gears on throttle idle mechanism... which would give you exactly the symptoms you have now

d'oh... yeah i'd go ISV then.... other option would be potentiometer on throttle but that'd cause otehr issues too

You could do a quick check to see if your switch for throttle valve is working properly. Its a basic open/close switch, check with a multimeter. If that one is broken you can get strange idle. Since it tells when the throttle is shut and when to idle.

If it's broken you might have a problem since the dealer canceled them 2007 - But i've come to understand, UK is where the ABF parts are :D

Did you port that throttle body I sold you mate because if you've gone too far on that you'll blatantly going to get idle problems.

cleaned the isv today. it was very black and gunked up. although it hasnt really made a great deal of difference.
one of the vacuum hose near by is split tho so i will replace that and may as well replace all of them while im at it which should help.
to get black or something bit more fun in colour tho??
