Hi all,
I need to stick a new instrument panel in my sister's 1.4 (the light behind the panel has blown and as it's a sealed unit, i'll have to replace the entire panel)
There's a gti in the local breakers.
Is everything calibrated in the same way across all models? if so, i wanna do a straight swap...
Any info would be much appreciated.

Everything can be opended. As far as i know only Motometer is sealed and those you find on GTI/Vr6. But they can be opened aswell.
As for you question, i would say no. But again am not sure so i leave to others to decide.

Will it fit in, will it plug in - yes.... will it work correctly: NO!
GTI engine / gearbox sends different number of pulses per revolution, so speed will be off. But that is not the most annoying thing. The oil pressure switches work differently on 1.4 (and 1.6) to 1.8/2.0 and diesel engines and it will just beep really annoyingly.....
Just change the bulbs (they are B8.3d 2W like these http://www.vsukonline.co.uk/product/12264/2973/b8-3d-bax10s-dashboard-interior-clear-light-bulb-s-12v-2w).... you can open them all up and the bulbs are standard ones... even Halfrauds sell them....

I disagree with the above posters, LCDs blew on my 1.4 ABD and I picked up a 8v anniversary set of dials for £10 at my local scrappers as they had 500 more miles than my car did at the time
Checked the speed with the GPS and it was near enough spot on.
