Hello All,
Need a bit of help from someone who has had similar probs.
Got a MK 1 1600 GTI, with a starting prob, basically it
is pain to start, took off the auxillary air valve and replaced with a pipe and it started 3rd crank, but idle a little quickly! so replaced the auxillary air valve which
has helped from cold (but it still takes its time). When it does fire up the idle is a little erratic and need you to control it using the throttle.
I think it may be the 5th injector for starting and poss main injectors that are causing the erratic tick over. If anyone has had similar probs would love to know what solved it.
PS It also doesn't start well when warm.
TIA
Regards,
MAC

Could be the 5th injector for starting. Check for vacuum leaks, maybe get a compression test done to.

Could be a number of things. I'd first check for vacuum leaks as golfvr6 mentioned. If thats all OK, maybe the inlet strainer to the fuel pump is full of crud.........its the first line of defense from cr@p in the tank and could well be causing fuel supply problems.

Hi all, ;D ;D
Sorry for not replying sooner (been away).
thanks for your replies, both were spot on, had it checked/tuned
and theres a leak on the vacuum pipe to from distributor to manifold valve, which was soon sorted, now she ticks over and starts fine.
Unfortunately got another problem, which I have posted on the MK1
forum. I will get the car sorted.... one day.
Regards,
Mark
