Title: Water pumps / Need to know if mk5 has a core plug
Post by: dTEA on 23 May 2014, 20:08
Had issues with the water pumps since a cambelt change two years ago.  Didnt help that the head gasket went but this was solved with a new one and a head skim before refitting.  The problem is that the water pump keeps leaking at on the side of the block.  Its had 4 replacements in the two years since the cambelt...one at cambelt, one under warranty of water pump due to leak. Then diagnosed as head gasket, then another since head due to still leaking.  I'm wondering if the pump mating is damaged on the block??? I'm now also dubious that the head was even an issue as there were no issues of mayo in the filler neck, but extreme coolant loss around the block from the flange.

Any ideas before I take it back in?

I read on here a wile back that the mounting point on the block can become damaged and cause coolant loss. I would research your options about sorting it before taking it in before they do anything else. Can't recall if it's something that can be repaired...

Title: Re: Water pumps/ does the mk5 have a core plug? Update

Car is going in for a deeper look. They have used non genuine parts but insist that it's the revised version as per VW. They are going to strip back around the water housing again, and inspect further

Anyone know if the MK5 has a core plug? Just above/around the water pump?
