Hi everyone
I've just bought a 2002 gti 2.0 mk4 a few days ago
When I drive it after a few minutes a message comes up saying "STOP CAR check coolant."
The coolant levels are fine. I bought some new stuff too to top it up a bit.
The fans are working so it's not an error with that which I was told it could be.
The tubes that come out of the coolant tank are red hot and the tank is also very hot.
I drove it pretty gently for about 5 miles so I have no idea why its so hot.
The temp gauge goes from 90 to 130 in about 1 minute of driving.
I'm worried about driving it in case it damages the car. Does anyone have any ideas of what to do?
I'm not very experienced with cars which probably comes across.
Thank you

Waterpump is f**ked.

Sounds most likely to be a broken water pump impellor has most likely broken up so poor or no coolant circulation and hence overheating

I'd also say water pump failure, I wouldn't drive it until you can get it replaced.

Take the thermostat out

Hi everyone. You were all right. Thank you.
The water pump impellor was in pieces.
