Spotted in Newcastle down the central motorway towards Cowgate roundabout, a white bluemotion 1.6 105bhp tdi with Golf R conversion (Plate T55 ....) tailgating me.
Anyone here?

A 1.6 masquerading as an R? Can't have been a convincing 'conversion' then.

Aye could tell straight away. Still had the standard wheels, the LED DRL's weren't connected and it had halogen headlamps haha. Had to check up on the MyCarCheck app to see which model it was

When you're going to do a replica you've got to go full hog! There's always people with the fine tooth comb out there!
-
So basically new bumpers.
I'll have to keep an eye out for this one.
-
You don't see many replicas these days. Back in the 80's and 90's, Auto trader was full of XR3i's dressed up as RS Turbos and XR4i's dressed up as Cosworths.

Busted! did a Fiesta mk1 as an XR2 and a Escort mk1 as a 1300 sport with the flaired mexico wings and quarter bumpers. Boy you needed the fine tooth comb for the Escort. The Fiesta was a different story though  you needed to be in a real hurry not to spot the difference!

i spotted a mk5 today with gti front bumper etc and mesh grill on front then the rear a 2.0tdi badge.. talk about not going the whole hog

Actually seen a couple of replica cars around Newcastle, ford focus RS conversion and an Audi RS5 comversion. They actually look pretty convincing until you realise they sound like a diesel. But I can't really talk, I drive a GTD with GTI exhaust tips/diffuser!

Haha! At least it's not as bad as doing the fastest/most expensive model replica on the lowest diesel!

In that time in history due to car crime I took the arches, front spoiler and badges off my mk1 GTI and fitted badges from a Golf GLS.

Had an XR3 not the i version due to the insurance premiums you couldn't give them away!
-
I had the mk1 GTI then, I use to lol when I spotted a mk2 GTI 8v on the road as I knew the owner was paying at least 3 times the insurance I was. Oddly mk1 GTIs weren't effected by the huge insurance hike for some reason. Probably as they did not have the YUPPIE image the mk2 had.

Never ever got a shot in a MK1 golf, they reckon they were rapid! Then along came the Pug's. They said that 1.9 gti thing was even more rapid!
