Post by: jonnyb on 19 May 2014, 21:46
I've got a mk5 gti, and one thing which p!sses me off is the radio signal.I can pick up Radio 1, and thats about it.  everynow and then i can get a few extra stations, but often lose them as i drive.

Any thoughts?

Are you using the standard external aerial?

And are you using the original head unit?

The car is running an RNS510 satnav unit.  To my knowledge this also uses the standard aerial.

This is a bit of a shot in the dark but I had a similar problem and an A4 Avant.

That had 3 aerials. One on the roof, one in the heated rear screen and one on a rear side screen. There was an amplifier/control unit that would pick the best reception and boost the signal. (Diversity module). It needed a 12V supply. (On that car the 12V wasn't supplied by an aftermarket head unit - not your problem but maybe part of your solution).

The reception on that was very much like you describe. I would check your fuses and maybe get it scanned.

I've got the cables and stuff to do my own scan.  I do know at the moment the CAN gateway isnt quite setup correct, which i do need to sort out, but i dont think its the issue with the signal.  Perhaps i should get my @ss into gear and sort that first, then see if there are any more fault codes hanging around.

Thanks for the input btw
