Title: Scratch removal
Post by: Fabio Bignose on 19 May 2014, 11:26
Hi all,

I need to remove some light scratches from the clearcoat (3 year old daughter, long story!!)

Anyway, I have AG SRP which has helped but they can still be seen in direct light etc..

What is the next step up in abrasiveness?

I only need and want something a little more abrasive so would scratchx or AG paint restorer be recommended? Or any other?

Cheers!

I got a set of 3 scratch removal pens from Costco the other day. The lacquer they give out does soak into and fill the scratch, but still rests above the surface of the surrounding paint. I have ordered a few 3M sheets of 4000grit/P9000/3 micron to rub down for polishing in. Ended up being about £6.50 for 3 sheets delivered.

If you can feel the scratch with your fingernail then ScratchX or the likes will be useless. I've found it of fairly limited use anyway on VW paint / lacquer, obviously just not abrasive enough. If you can't feel the scratch with your nail then you might have some joy. I had a particularly bad bird-crap mark on my roof last summer and nothing by hand would shift it. Eventually got a pro-detailer to have a go with a machine and that fixed it.
