How are the rear black trims on each side your rear boot screen.
Mine are awfully fitted, the one on the right is not too bad, but the one on left must be 4-5 mm out, so the top of it does not follow the flow of the spoiler and looks bad. That in itself would be bad enough, but today it was all but falling off, as it has unstuck from the bottom.
Been to the dealer who is going to order some new ones. We checked 3 other cars in the car park and not one of them was what could be described as OK in the way they are fitted, not as bad as mine, but certainly not good.
-
I'll check when I get home tonight. Got any pics?
-
You would've thought something like that would've been picked up by quality at Wolfsberg?! Anyhow, that's pants
-
I noticed before that my passenger side one was very slightly lifted from the screen at the bottom, but really I'd have to have my nose up to it to notice. A bit of double sided tape would sort it out if I could be bothered.

Hi,
I posted a few weeks ago abut this. One is positioned a few mm lower than the other and is now coming unstuck at the bottom. The dealer has a spare in, went to fit it and discovered they did not have the special adhesive activator, so had to order it in. I have not heard a thing since

I tried double sided tape (the really good industrial stuff) It lasted 2 days before the trim lifted again

I have asked the dealer to get a left and right ordered. He did mention that it may need "special adhesive", so hopefully that will be done :)
Right hand side - pretty flush

Left hand side - I think someone was having a bad day in the factory fitting this one.

Hmm, I don't seem to have ANY fitted! It's not something I noticed until I read this thread. Are these fitted by the dealer at PDI or should they come with the car?!?

Fitted at the factory, a call to the dealer is in order methinks!

A call will be made first thing tomorrow. Thanks for the info.

Mine are fitted shockingly too. I noticed a strange squeak coming from the drivers side rear spoiler when cleaning the car and then noticed it was becausethe adhesive has come away at the top meaning it no longer lines up. The gap is equally abysmal between the sil and the rear window.
What's going on with Volkswagen build quality? Seriously. We pay a premium price for solid engineering and we get squeaky sunroofs, squeaky suspensions, rattling dashboards, faulty handbrakes, iPod cables that don't stay in the iPod and now badly stuck on sills.
They really need to up their game again. They've made an excellent car, with excellent technology but it seems they are forgetting the basics in the process.
-
People pay a lot more for their Audis and they're no better screwed together than a VW. The best built VW I ever had was my Scirocco 170TDI - built in Portugal rather than Germany.

When I put my GTI up next to the one a friend is using (leased) last week it was noticeable that 'his' had loose rear spoiler sides and yet mine is stuck fast one side but has a slight bit of play the other (nearside).
Also noticeable was that his 14 plate car in the same colour as mine had more swirls too so maybe it is something to do with the cleaning regime as my car gets frequent delicate washes and that car gets 'valeted' by company funded car cleaners.
Both cars were supplied by the same dealer interestingly and both were on the same mileage.
Mine is six months old and the 14 plate is only weeks old yet mine was in very noticeably superior condition despite the 14 plate GTI getting very regular cleaning.

Just looking at mine, vertically they seem to line up fine on both sides. On the small horizontal part at the top that runs across the roof there is a small gap. It's exactly the same the on both sides. Is this meant to be flush up against the roof part?

They're meant to be flush all around yes. On the sides and with the rear spoiler. Mine is flush at the top on one side but not on the other side.

Spoke to the leasing company about the total lack of rear screen trim on my car and the dealer has arranged to get them sent to me and then I have to take the car to local dealer for them to fit/bond. It makes me wonder what else that have forgot. First the GTD key fobs and now this...
-
I have had the same problem. My right hand spoiler trim started to lift off and gradually got worse. Took it into VW Stockport and they completely replaced and so far it is staying in place.
Both sides don't 100% line up but maybe I am being too fussy.
-
Well today I received my missing trim in the post as arranged by the leasing company. Despite my request, there was no information with the trim on how to proceed. No compliment slip, nothing! I presume they expect me to take it to my local dealer and inform them of the situation so they can fit the trim free of charge.
Looking at the trim though, it's just adhesive pads that literally stick onto the car, so all needs to be done is line it up and stick it on.
Before I do this, has anyone any advice re: preparation of surface before I stick 'em on?

A thorough clean and dry of the area and a wipedown with IPA or panel wipe if you have it would give the best possible adhesion
-
Thanks for that. I don't have IPA/panel wipe I'm afraid. Do you think it'll be ok to apply after a good wash and dry or is it worth getting some?

Yes should be grand as long as its clean and dry
-
I had one of the trims replaced at the dealer today. Looks a good job.
-
Once clean I'd sit the trim on the glass and line it up.
Once lined up run some masking tape or any tape down the glass parallel to the trim so when you are fitting it for real you know exactly where its going.
You'll only get one chance to get it right.
-
Well after 2 weeks the new trim is now coming unstuck! It appears to be the glue between the trim and sticky pad that fails (I assume the trim is supplied like this). Here we go again :embarrassed:
-
Has anyone tried using a little Tiger Seal?
Sure that would work and not come away from the glass. I understand its something that the dealer could/should do, but it may be more likely to get done properly by yourself with Tigerseal.
