I'm not saying don't run them I think they look far better, but they are illegal non the less. Was just saying, simply because they have numbers on and the seller says they are doesn't make them legal

My mates been told to swap them and been finned before but not very often. I'd imagine they don't care, but if you where being a tit and they wanted too it gives them a reason to fine you I suppose

Any number plates supplied without docs are show plates, suppliers now have to keep records.

Regardless of whether Vauxhall let them go without documents or not technically they are supposed to keep records but nobody ever does apart from Halfords it seems.

Misrepresented Number Plates:

Please be aware that the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency ( DVLA ) has been dealing with an increased number of enquiries dealing with raised lettering or metal number plates. DVLA,s position is that there is nothing in the British Standard ( BS AU 145d) or in the Road Vehicles ( Display of Registration Marks ) Regulations 2001 that specifically excludes raised lettering or metal plates.

If they are stamped with a manufacture number, bs and post code of man along with charles wright front and retrorelective (whatever the f**k that is) they are perfectly legal.

Well said that man.

Car from earlier than 2001, on a set of plates from earlier than 2001 - no requirement to have all that junk on the bottom?

The fact these ebay plates are stamped with a bs standards mark does not mean they have met the regulations but rather there are made to comply, which most do not. Leaves you open to a 60 quid fine if a police officer picks up on it. And anyone who buys or sells a plate without proof and documentation is breaking the law. Number plate crime is big business, had a set nicked off my car a few year ago, they had forensics out dusting it for prints. Dubmeister are the only company i'd use.
