right need to find out information regarding my mk2 16gti...
1st is it a campaign model cant find a register to verify that
2nd i know it sounds non important but on the plastic trim along the door some 16v's have 16v or gti on it and mine doesnt
3rd how can i find out if it had big bumpers originally or small bumpers
4th for some reason it seems to have 8v braking power i dont know that for sure but its pretty poor at stopping
would just like to know as it seems pretty solid (cheers gaz!!) and im deciding wether to do a full restore on it bare metal full respray galavanize the sub frame etc etc

it depends on the year of ur valver to weather it had big bumpers, think its around 89/90 when they were put on standard
not sure about the trim but you can buy the badges for around a tenner for them

seen a h reg mk2 16 with small bumpers mines an 89 f

on an F im almost 100% should have been small bumpers,
how are u sure its a campaign model??
as for the brakes, most golfs are cr@p

well its oak green was told it could be a campaign but was 100% the reason i would like to know is im thinking full restore would like it how it was original everything but keep the single lights. another thing big bumpers are a pain in the arse keeps detaching or catching everything in site.
would g60 brake setup be a straight swap as im thinking maybe a wise mod
still loving it tho had a couple of 8valves and this thing is trully mind blowing

1 - I doubt you will find a register of them they haven't got the cult status that mk1 campaign's have
2 - the door trims may well have been changed along with...
3 - the non-standard bumpers as it would have started life on small bumpers
4 - don't 16v's of that age have the same 239mm disks as 8v?

I'm on an E 88 I have plain side mouldings, 239mm erm think they're called brakes (an anchor would be better sometimes!), big bumpers.
I Think they did a limited run on Helios Blue, Oak green and Monza Blue with big bumpers and the plain side strips as a test probably might also have the Euro 50mm intake manifold and a blue and yellow striped interior. ;) mine has anyway :D
I'm looking at doing my brakes v soon they aren't too bad apparently either later 16v 256mm or corrado g60 280mm fit straight on....... by straight on I mean you need the full hub assembly and callipers/carriers. and a big hammer/lots of patience! scrapyards are your best bet. :smiley:

couldnt you buy them as optional extra's from vw when you bought the car? im sure some drivers have had them on as standard

well my big bumpers is held on by nice big brass flat head screws to the wing :sad: think its been bodged

Here are some more statements for you :grin:
1. F reg cars should have had small bumpers, big bumpers came in around a G plate, although some early Gs got small bumpers too (late registered cars no doubt) :)
2. All late GTIs will have got big bumpers from the factory, if the hazard stalk is on top of the steering column its a late spec model which should have big bumpers.
3. Big bumpers were possibly available as an option to lower models but never heard anyone confirm it, GLs always got the big bumper kit but with a smaller bumper spoiler.
4. Think 256mm brakes came in around late 88 or 89, check yours before you go out and buy a kit :wink:
5. Big brass screws are not OEM bumper mounting equipment :grin:
6. You can tell if the front bumper is genuine or not by looking at the corners of the black textured bit, if it has a moulding line then its a genuine bumper. Also, non-genuine bumper skins are screwed to the mounting iron, genuine skins clip into place.
Edit: Looking in your gallery, you have the old small bumper rubbing strips and the red stickers, so yours was definitely a small bumper model from the factory :)

Yeah it is genuine, but is small bumper type, big bumper trim is thinner and has a little 'GTI' badge clipped in. No red stripe stickers down the sides door either :)

ok so its oek green i am led to believe this is a special edition colour? has raindow interior but small bumper. would just loike to know before i respray it
