Got the news I was dreading my vr6 auto gearbox is broken. Driving in 2nd gear, slipping in 3rd, not going into reverse straight away.
Few options ;
1) find another auto vr gearbox?
2) get it reconditioned ?
3) what I've wanted to do for ages and convert to manual?
How much to convert to manual? Do I just need to find a manual vr breaking?? Get the right bits then get new clutch & flywheel ?
In the long run in thinking convert as if get more when I come to sell it plus always have the option of turboing it ;)
Thanks guys and gals

Easiest is to get another auto box, then its done in a couple of hours for under £150.
Manual conversion:
Box
fly
mounting brackets, mounts?
Shifter mechanism and trim
Pedal box/pedals and fittings
Radiator/box cooling delete
Relays/fuse box work
ECU? (imob/keys etc)
Probably missed a few things or got some wrong
Donor car could be had for as little as £150 so its not a major cost if you are careful its mainly time and space

Manual conversion is well worth it!

Time and parts though? fix and sell, buy a manual

Selling her now. If she doesn't sell I'll be stripping her which could be fun on a drive :/

Funny how its cheaper to just buy a another Mk3 than fix em these days

Which is why it just isn't worth fixing her :(

Easier to stick with auto, manual conversion is a ballache unless you can get a donor car.

try topping up gearbox fluid first if no faulr codes and changing filter...may work...but expensive to try..../)

Tempted to fix her with a recon gearbox but best place to find one? Don't want to get one from just anywhere incase it has other problems?
Unplugged gearbox ecu and plugged back in and it made a massive difference but driving on motorway noticed it isn't changing into 4th :(, driving 60/70 just over 4rpm then change into 3rd and revs stay the same? so guessing 4th gear must have gone :/
Front and rear Brakes, rear bearings all need doing as well

Scrap pick up another easy enough

Bit getting a 2nd hand rather than a reconditioned etc how do I know it won't brake in a weeks time? :/
Might just be better off keeping this as I only want it till after jan then I can look for a newer car :)

Sell it in a weeks time working

the fault code is 00268 shift solenoid 6 open n93, can't really afford to buy another car, so getting a 2nd hand gearbox looks like the cheapest option, just need to find out how many hours labour a garage would charge :(
