i have currently got a 54 plate veccy 2.2 sri im getting 29 mpg on my commute would i get more or less if i buy one off these thanks
-
Depends how you drive it, I'd avoid the V5 engine though, the 2.8 V6 is a better all rounder.

what issues do they have dom thanks.

Lots, 1.8t is the better choice all round

150/170bhp from a 2.3 litre engine? No thanks

And a complete pain to get more power out of, 1.8t is 150 or 180 to start with and a remap transforms them.

If you're only getting 29mpg our of a 2.2 ecotec, I'd avoid the v5! :)

Lots of people saying they have a multitude of faults, but no one naming a single one..
You will struggle to get a better spec car for the price, the Toledo V5s in particular are bargainisous
Get a later 20v one (170bhp) and enjoy the torque. The mk3 Vr was 2.8 litre and 174bhp, so the V5 is hardly dropping the ball.
If you want a proper power house car then best to go out and buy one out the box, ie not a V5 or a 20vt

yes but the AUQ 1.8T has 180bhp so better power straight away and will return better MPG. No brainer IMO
-
V5 is sh!t period!!!!!

Early ones had piston trouble, they are noted for using oil, timing chain issues the same as VR6's, poor mpg and hard to get any extra power from etc etc.
Not one of VW's finest engines

didnt even sound nice. i was hoping the extra cylender might give it a little more grunt under load.
everyone iv heard has sounded like a tractor.
actually i think the tractor sounded better

Having owned my V5 Bora for the last 6 odd months, I can safely say there is nothing wrong with the engine as a whole (so long as it's been looked after). MPG isn't all that bad on a normal run, it's when you put your foot down that it is a different story. Engine sounds nice too. Not going to be singing bells and whistles if it's speed you want but there's enough power there for an everyday car.
V5s are cruisers anyway.

Why get a v5 when you have a v6 option which has hadlex and a awesome sounding engine ..also there built like a tank..and very similiar mpg to the v5
