Title: Is there a fix for the sound actuator
Post by: Fabio Bignose on 07 May 2014, 07:28
I realise dash noises have been discussed in other threads but I want to be a bit more specific about the actuator.

I'm sure I'm not the only one experiencing a vibration, somewhere in the centre of the dash, when the car is in sport mode specifically and the engine is under load at low revs....

Is anyone aware of a fix or TPI, bulletin or whatever for this as it's bugging me but have lost a bit of faith in the dealer and can't afford any more time to go and visit them as have been there a bit lately with my weather seal saga.

Sounds silly, but is the cubby hole for your phone closed?

Mine makes a very irritating rattle when left open.

Instructions to disconnect the sound generator here, from the Briskoda Forum but should be the same for the Golf. Might not be what you want to do but should fix the vibration.

Hi there disconnected mine about 3 weeks ago took about 3 minutes connector is tight but well worth doing. There are people who like the artificial noise but each to his own.

Not done it myself, but here (http://www.stemei.de/pages/coding/vw-golf-7/soundaktuator-lautstaerke-anpassen.php) is the coding for de-activating the soundaktor using VCDS (from stemei.de). Basically, this turns down the volume to zero, or whatever you wish in between. Pros and cons for either method, really.

I got my new car last week and asked dealer to turn volume of 'soundaktor' to zero before I collected it, prefer to listen to genuine note of car, not artificial sound.

I think the sound actuator is brilliant. Everyone who's had a ride in my GTI comments on how great the engine note is, sounds like a V8 under hard acceleration. I don't think it sounds artificial at all. There's no way you'd even notice it was an actuator if no one told you. Let's face it, there's only so much you can do with 4 cylinders and I must admit the sound isn't great inside the cabin without it on. It's a shame that you can barely hear the exhaust pop from inside too. Sounds great from outside though :)

Had this problem with my 7 R the dealer simply Insulated the actuator ,which took the harshness of the sound off ,
making it more rounded ,and cit cured the rattle noise under the dash .
With the screen being used as a speaker you can also get in car noises amplified if you have loose coins /CD's
in the car ect which all sound like they are coming from under the dash

Being able to change the volume of this device raises the question as to if every car leaves the factory set the same.

People who dont like it might be set to Max volume and its really artificial, when a slight adjustment might just give you a nice sound. Its a right pain having to have the software etc to change this, wound it not have been better to have it on the normal options on the console?

I posted recently that the wifes car never seemed to return back to its throaty sound in Sport mode after being in Eco for a journey.

I went out in it last night and am still convinced that the only sound I can hear is the engine now, I reckon its either bust or has set itself to zero, I feel a long drawn out set of visits to the dealer is going to follow
