Title: MK6 GTI Battery Replacement Question
Post by: sajymundo on 06 May 2014, 17:37
The battery on my GTI seems to be failing and after look at the battery itself I found that it was the original battery supplied by VW. Car is a 59 plate so I suppose its done it duty and is due a replacement. My question is if I replace the batter will I require the code for the RNS510 sat nav system? I bought the car about a year ago and it didn't come with any codes for the unit. Will replacing the battery require the code or as its already linked to the car it won't be needed?

Also, would any similar battery do the trick or should I get something specific?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it's stored so shouldn't need the code,
When I fitted my old RNS back in the car while I was waiting for a repair on the other unit, it was plug n play and didn't ask for the code, so should be ok

What you will get in a multitude of warning lights, beeps and error messages on the dashboard, but they will all go away after you have driven for a mile or so.

So finally changed the battery over the weekend. It was odd as most websites indicated I needed a type 027 battery but when I looked at the one in the car it was a 096, so if you need a battery for your GTI just keep that in mind. From what I could see is that the type 027 is slightly shorter in length and seems to have less power.

Yuasa 12v Silver.

■Startup Power: 760amps
■AH Value: 80ah
■Bench Charge: 6amps
■Weight: 18.65kg
■Dimensions (LxDxH): 278 x 175 x 190mm
■Guarantee: 5 years

So its more powerful that the original battery (72ah, 640amps) and has a nice long guarantee too.
