Title: Squeaky electric windows
Post by: Pld118 on 04 May 2014, 08:37
Hi, the car (a 3 door) has recently had the driver's door alignment worked on to try and cure intrusive wind noise when driving.  Not sure if it's coincidence but the driver's door electric window now squeaks/ rubs loudly when in use.  More so when it is on the downward motion but also on the upward motion.

Has anyone experienced this and if so, what's the cure for that please?

Thanks.

Give the rubbers around the window a clean

Probably the rubbers as charlie says, but failing that, it's worth blowing compressed air down the window channel just in case anything is lodged.  The aerosol type (with straw attachment) used for computers works ok.

Thanks, for the blowing of air advice.

I spent ages cleaning the window rubbers on both doors yesterday, first with WD40 and finally with silicone gel.  It seemed to have made no difference at all, other than to ensure the windows were caked in greasy film.

It is strange that I've only really noticed this issue since the car had a second visit to the dealership for the door alignment to be corrected to try and cure the door wind intrusion.

Anyway, the cleaning and silicone cleaner on the seals does indeed seem to have worked because got in the car this morning and.... Both windows up and down time and again with no squeaks! The WD and silicone must have been soaking in overnight... Touch wood.

Thanks for what seems to have been a top tip

New window regulators fitted to both front windows which I'm told is the fix for this.

VW confirmed that to diagnose the fault in this case they had to remove the door cards/ trims and on both doors (3 door), they found that both window regulators were twisted.  Both were replaced and are now warrantied for 2 years and importantly... seem quiet!  Schhhh...
