Title: Tooling up the 8V AGG GTI
Post by: Elios_l on 03 May 2014, 15:39
Can anyone shed some light? i was wondering what mods i could do to my 8V AGG. I was going to buy a chip for it but was also wondering about the possibility of fitting a turbo?
Anybody know of any kits or has anyone done this themselves?
Dont really want to spend stupid money but i love this car and have already put  allot of time into it and i will never get the money back so any advice/ guides / ideas would be appreciated!

Not wanting to piss on your fire but unless you spend thousands on the engine and forced induction you wont get much past 150 bhp.
To hit 150 bhp from a measly 115 bhp you will need a cam, 4 branch, porting and flowing, ecu/map/custom ecu, balananced and lightened fly/crank etc etc etc, And lots of free time and friends.
If you have time and feel like a laugh then go for it, someone on here did a cross flow head 8v and got cool results, have a scan through the build threads to find it, iirc he had friends time and money

If this is not you then these are the options.

If your skint, live with it and spend you time chasing the rust.

Sell it and buy a VR or 16v

Or if your mad, generally deficient of sense or need to get away from the wife then consider an engine change.
Cheapest and easiest is to dump another Mk3 engine in, maybe £500 parts + labour
Next move is to look at a 20v turbo unit from other vag machines, maybe £2k parts + labour

This has been covered a bazillion times, use the search function to avoid further sarcasm

cheers for the replies. I have thought about the 20v conversion and VR6. Loath to sell it as i would get nothing for it and like i said already put time and effort into it :(

Put a 16v in or a 20v turbo.

No point in a vr6. Engine and gearbox in the wrong place (infront of front wheels) too heavy and juicy

I would not bother with a 16v, 150 bhp feels slow pretty quickly in a Mk3 and you will be chucking money at it to make it faster pretty soon
