Hello all ive just brought a gti mk5 2007
it has developed a whistling noise which is a pain.
from cold once the engine has started the sound comes on after about 30 sec to two mins
it is a whistling sound
the performance is fine
we also have a engine symbol on the dash (emmision) could this be linked
we have also had the oil stop message come up for a very short time(seconds)
having read some post we tried and removed the dipstick the sound disappeared is the pcv at fault
any ideas please

Another way to test your PCV valve is to have the engine at idle when warm, then remove the oil filler cap for a fraction of a second. If the engine goes to stall with the cap off then your PCV is fine, however if it makes no different or only a slight change in revs, then get yourself the latest revision unit (available from Awesome GTI).
Also, get yourself to a dealer or someone with VCDS and get your ECU fault codes read. You don't want to be driving about with the engine light on as it's not worth gambling with things like that.
Report back when you get some results, always good to see if feedback works. Good luck getting it sorted.

Hi thanks for the reply we had the car checked out by the phirm today and the pcv valve was at fault
this has now been fixed
they checked out the oil stop warning symbol that has come on on the dash under idle very little oil was detected on a pressure gauge but good pressure was found at 2000 revs is this normal

I would say no personally, but you'll need to ask someone more in the knowledge of possible solutions to it. Really, you don't want any lights relating to the engine coming on at anytime.
