So first real road trip for the GTI PP - 43.2mpg on the journey from Hampshire up to Keswick in the Lakes so pleased with that.
Then today I needed to go to Newcastle so I took the A686 from Penrith

If you've not driven on this road, then believe me - it's GTI heaven!
The thing that really got me smiling was the limited slip diff which to be honest I'd never really used before - you can floor it out of the hairpins and it just shoots off in the right direction! No wheelspin, torque steer or anything, I can see why the press have been so enthusiastic about it...
Anyhow - do try out the road, but also be careful - there are quite a few motorbikes and cyclists, so take it easy...
Day 2 mpg = 25.2...!

That sort of sums the GTI's talents up.
On one hand a comfy economical cruiser and on the other hand a proper driving tool.

I had the same sort of road trip a couple of weeks ago down Loch Ness, a great road for the Gti, but held up a few times with Nessie spotters
But never the less a great road to drive on with the Gti

yes I had a Mazda 6 in front of me for a particularly fun bit  I was tempted to turn round and try again!
