Below is the print out for the emissions test, which my car failed on for the MOT. What can I do to get it to pass? I have not got a clue, apart from trying to bribe the MOT tester

Better cat or bribe mot tester?

I had a brand new 200 cell sports cat put on 5 months ago. I umed and ared about it as I was only getting a cat back put on, but the company that did it assured me that it would pass an MOT!
-
Not sure then, I do know that 200 cell cats are known to fail
-
Hi ya,
Your failing on CO pretty badly, so it might be running rich.

I'll phone the company up that did my tbe and see what they say about their cat.

I have only just had the car custom remapped, so I doubt it would be running rich otherwise it would of been pointed out.

Lambda ok?

Lambda ok?
As far as I know it is, the emissions test says it is ok and I have no fault codes on the ecu
-
Lambda readings look to high, i had similar figures swapped it for new and passed, i also run Miltek 200 cell sportscat.
Is there someone local to you that could do some logging to check the values of Lambda sensor

Thanks, I have a liquid cube device that has a function which does "Air Fuel Ratio ( Lambda)" readings. Will that do the job?

First of all. How hot was the car when you took it? I dont mean coolant tenp showed correct.
If the garages sensor is showing lamda as within spec then its not a fuelling issue which means changing your lambda sensor will do nothing to help..
The lambda showed you are running lean in the test condition. Which would normally mean less CO, due to less partial combusion.
Catalysts work on a surface area and require temperature to work. A standard cat has a large surface area to react enough CO to pass at low temperatures (approx 240c).
A sport car has less surface area for the catalysis reaction so needs to up to full operating temperature (450c ish).

It wasn't very hot at all actually. How long should I drive it for to get it hot enough to warm up. Thanks!

You'll want it stinking hot. The longer and harder the drive the better. Wouldn't be able to tell you how long a drive though.
A normal decent a road drive shoud eventually get it up to temp. But you want to really soak everythinh with heat to allow for a cooldown period.
Ideally you dont want it sitting round too long at the MOT station before the test.

Ok, thanks mate!

Update....I spoke to the MOT tester and he told me to drive it like I stole it haha, So I took her for a hard going over for 40 mins  I could feel the heat coming from the side of the car when I got out. The MOT tester took her straight in and started the emissions test, but there was no change at all  I have contacted the company that fitted the Sports Cat (as it has a life time guarantee) and they are going to do some tests on Tuesday. Fingers crossed they can sort her out!

Who built the custom exhaust out of interest?

Did it fail by the same amount as last time.
If it did, it sounds like a possible duff cat.
-
Or ask a different garage if they can do emissions for you just out of curiosity? It's highly unlikely but calibration or all sorts could have an effect? Nothing to lose

Yes mate, it did. I go my appointment tomorrow with the company that fitted the sports cat, so hopefully they will change it if it is faulty
-
Update.... xxChrisxx, you were right, it was a duff cat. They replaced it and I took it back for the retest and the CO passed, but this time it failed on the lambda! The MOT tester said it was because the cat hadn't been fitted properly and the exhaust was blowing. So I phoned up the exhaust company and complained. The manager was very apologetic and said he would fix it and do me a free MOT as they are an MOT centre too. It can't be done until Thirsday, which is annoying because I got stopped by the police yesterday on the way to work for not having an MOT  The police let me off and told me to go to work and when I get home to not drive it until I got an MOT. So I am carless until Thursday!
