What can you see down the hole on the left in the first pic? Looks like the fan which is in the passenger footwell, tucked right up in the corner.

can see a fan , so is that the heater fan then...

Yeah the fan section tucks right up on the left and the rest of the ducting must plug into the rest of the heater matrix behind the centre console.
