Title: Mk3 seat belts in a mk2?
Post by: Brighouse-gti on 24 April 2014, 19:57
Hi all, been having a search around the forums and can't find an answer to the question. There's lots of " I can't see why not ", but no definate yes or no answers. So I thought I'd ask in the best forum of all

I would assume yes, the fixing points are the same but never had a look at how the pulley back thing ( can't think what it's called) is mounted. If that mounts the same then yes.

The thingy I think your on about is a tensioner that bolts down either to or with the seat subframe. My thinking was that I wouldn't necessarily have to install that part if the existing seat belt clunk click bit takes the mk3 bit you put into the clunk click bit ????? If that makes sense lol
If I get round to doing it I will post up and let you's know how it went!

I was purely thinking of the rear seat belts because they are the only ones I have taken out. The anchor points are just 17mm bolts so I was thinking about the retraction device.

I have nothing to add, i just wanted to express my joy at the use of "Clunk click bit"s and "Pully back thingy"s

We might have lost some of the more casual forum users there with how technical we went there.

Sooo the answer to the question is YES, with some ever so slight modding. The seat belts I've fitted are mk3 anniversary edition in red.
The rear seat belts were pretty much a straight swap, only difference being on the rear of the belt retraction unit there is a locator pin that you need to remove and locate into centre of the of the unit. There's are three holes, and when I got the belts, the locator pin was offset to the unit and wouldn't marry up to the locator hole. After repositioning the pin, the retraction unit then just nicely slotted into place and bolted up.
The fronts required a bit of cutting of the internal bodywork, literally a cm2, to allow the belt tensioner to sit behind the rear door card, then again literally just bolts in. All that's left to do then is drill a hole in the internal bodywork and bolt in the tensioning device, which I should imagine is probably REALLY IMPORTANT to do so!
I will post some pics up soon and everything will become a whole lot clearer.

ALSO!!!.... thinking about it, I'm not sure if this would work in a 5 door model. The rears maybe, but I doubt the fronts would due to the tensioner!!
