Had 2 faults diagnosed today, the first was after I noticed flat spots initially when booting the car. Turned out to be a blocked EGR valve which fortunately was a cheap fix.
Second problem was the AC not kicking in, thought it needed a re-gas but apparently not, the compressor has failed!!! Car is a 59reg GTD with 60k on the clock so needless to say I'm fuming that this has failed after less than 5 years. Quoted £600+ for a new compressor (I've used the mechanic for years, totally trust him)...
Currently disputing with VW UK about a goodwill gesture as it's only a few months out of approved used warranty.
Anyone else had the same problems??

I had my EGR replaced for an oil leak at 45,000 miles, A/C is still working touches wood. 68k on the clock on an April 2010.

I have read of a couple of cases of compressors failing on here.
Iirc owners went off and bought replacements off German ebay as they said they were much cheaper than any uk sourced ones.

Righto thanks, will have to do that if the VW goodwill angle fails.

Anyone where the best place would be to buy a air-con pump in the UK?
-
Just to update this, VW have acknowledged that the compressor was faulty and have paid for the part (£500+) and I've paid for the diagnostic and labour - £200.
So if anyone else has had ac compressor failure it may be worth going to VW UK as it's a known problem.

I need to get mine booked in to get looked at soon. Air con hasn't worked properly since I got the car in January, thought it may have just been a regassing thing but when I took it to Halfords for the free check, turns out it's bigger than that, possibly compressor..not happy
