Unlock the glove box

Rip the handel off , have a look in the hole and you can get a screwdriver in it and trigger the mechanism , but fiddly but once you find the tab its easy

Break in as said, get a complete second hand one as its only five minutes to change the lot.
I always take the box out when I scrap a Mk3 as one of my keepsake parts, if you can keep the light intact even better
Never lock the glove box, it breaks and it does not deter a thief as you will see how easy it is to get in

I used to make locks and internals years back, it was gash old stuff functional at best in them days Rover owners can testify to that :lipsrsealed:

Rip it off (Keep the lock intact mind)

Then buy this off ebay. (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK3-GTI-GLOVE-BOX-HANDLE-CATCH-C470-/190589336853?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Plat_Gen%3AMK+III%7CModel%3AGolf&hash=item2c60027d15)
