Title: can I remove the front sway bar
Post by: davidgtrr34 on 18 April 2014, 21:12
Would be safe to remove the sway bar because my car is lowered 80mm on front and I dont like it rubbing the drive shaft

I wouldn't personally. Why not fit one from a TT/S3/LCR that goes under the driveshaft?

the mot is just done and my car is low and very stiff so I was hoping that the coilovers would stop the body roll

Coilovers won't stop the body roll, you need the arb.

Just but an under driveshaft one, I got mine for £20 from someone who was breaking a TT.

Forgive me, but removing the arb is the silliest thing I've heard since I been a member here

Have you tried adjustable drop links?

What tt? Mk? And what drop links ?

Mk1 TT and either standard drop links (which will sit at a funny angle) or some nice rose jointed adjustable ones. I'll create a sticky later with all the info about the rose jointed ones courtesy of Wazzzer :afro:

We need more people running them lol

They're a great solution. I had mine off the other day to check over them and other than a slight tear to the rubber boot they're holding up really well.

Shouldn't fail an MOT without an ARB as my a3 hasn't got one.... Not through choice may I add, previous owner removed it when he lowered it and 'pikeys had it'

Drives normal but then again I can't give a before and after

If it had one when it was built, it should fail an MOT if it's missing. I think it was last year the wording in the regs was changed to make it more concrete.

It mustn't have crossed the testers mind then when I had mine done. All legitimate too. Must be a good tester

I removed the sway bar and the car is going around bends without any roll.

all i can say, having ran a car with standard roll bar, no roll bar and uprated roll bar.

you wownt think theres much difference between standard and no roll bar (Especially as your bushes were proberbly 10+ years old and in sh!te condition) but believe me there is.

round about i take 3rd exit every day i have done the following with the car right on the limit (note that its a 60mph zone so no speeding etc), standard roll bar 40mph, no roll bar 35mph, uprated roll bar best part of 50mph.and thats right on the limit, i tried to push the no roll bar faster but wa never able to get it around faster than 35mph, every time i got over that it started to understeer like crazy and i had to slow down to about 30mph.
