Title: Sunroof problem!! (Rear)
Post by: Brighouse-gti on 18 April 2014, 19:22
Slightly different to the other current post... Car has just been for a respray so the entire sunroof, rails, deflector everything were out. When I went to collect car the geeza had put it all back in but he couldn't get the rear of the sunroof panel to sit flush. I've had a go today, taken it all out again and put it back in to just have the exact same problem?!? I've used the screws at the rear to try and adjust it that way but with no luck, and I've even tried to slip in a few washers between the panel and mech to make it sit flush but still no luck?!? There are no parts missing everything is there. Am I missing something really obvious but can't see for looking. The panel and gear are in sync, the front of the panel sits sweet as, it's just I cant get the rear to flush out, and its not a mill or so out its a good 6-7 mill out so quite a gap to look at. Any help greatly appreciated as tomorrow eve its back out in the open as its currently at work in the warehouse!!

Ok the runners slot into place at back. You should feel/locate them. They are bowed usually (maybe age related)

If not that then a case of adjustment, Even the slightly thicker clear coat is enough to stop the roof closing like it once did. Just means its a bit tighter around the seal for the back end to raise closed.

You have tried the height adjusters right? May also need to nudge the whole metal roof forward just a smidge to clear.

I'll have another go tomorrow, take it out and start from scratch. I didn't see any holes within the roof skin to locate the two pins that sit at the ends of the rails, and I did check!.... Should there be some?

Again, from memory, isn't the height of the roof adjustable by raising or lowering the screws that are located under the S/R mounting brackets?

Sooooooo, had another tinker today and managed to get the roof to sit flush. I may have cheated a bit but it sits as flush as. As the roof winds forward just before it gets to the closed position, the two rear brackets or mounts if you like, pull up against a raised bit of metal bar that screws into rails on the side, if that makes sense?!? Anyways, all I did was simply make the slight raise, more raised by levering a screwdriver under it, a little bit at a time, thus making the rear of the panel raise up more as it pulled up against it. It's now nice n snug and looks rite as. I tried the adjusting screws and they just didnt raise it enough. Maybe the respray had something to do with it as it was a tight fit, but jobs a good un and I'm happy with it, so happy days!!
