Title: LED projector headlamp coding
Post by: JayGTD on 18 April 2014, 10:56
Hi all,

I am planning on purchasing a set of LED projector headlamps from Vacar fairly soon for my GTD ( http://www.vacar.com.cn/productshow.asp?id=176 ). The physical installation should be no problem. What I am worried about is the coding - has anyone attempted or succeeded in installing these? If so, what codes were used?

I am aware that you can jump connections to make the LED's function as both DRL's and Parking lights (just like the OEM) and I may plan to do this also; has anyone done this in the UK?

Many thanks,
Jay

Yeah buddy. Quoted £380 delivered so i thought may aswell, not much more than what Pryda was offering in his group buy. There is a UK seller, xenonz.co.uk but he's selling for £450 for the first gen 10 LED ones. Cheers mate!

This is off e38 dude

Yep straight swap plug and play

the DRL's are currently on the sidelights as need coding to work as DRL's (meaning rear lights and numberplate light are on if I switch drl's on)

I used to have the Vacar lights fitted (the type with two projector housings each side) the LEDs were connected to the sidelight circuit and they could not be coded to work as DRLs, the only way was to connect pins 4 and 10 together, that way they would work as DRL and sidelights.

There is a lot of information in this thread:

http://www.vwgolf.net.au/showthread.php?6474-Product-Review-Chinese-Replica-MK6-Golf-HID-Headlamps-for-halogen-cars.

Somewhere there is a thread where someone has inserted a wire between the two pins to make them work, I will post it if I can find it.

Thanks very much guys.

Mustard, on Golfmk6 forums they use these codes to code the LED's as DRL's:

http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45469

With standard Golf GTI Tail Lights
1. Change Byte 24 to E4
2. Change Byte 27 to 24

With Golf R LED tail lights
1. Change Byte 18 to 04
2. Change Byte 24 to E4
3. Change Byte 27 to 24

I was wondering if they were the same as in the UK because i know they involve doing fancy stuff with the rear fog lights etc, and in the US they are on the opposite side.

Is that what you did? Jump the 4 and 10 pins? I plan on doing that but i'm not sure if there will be complications in the coding. Apparently, from the guys at vacar, you also need to code out errors

Many thanks,
Jay

I didn't try the coding, couldn't be bothered as I already had these DRLs fitted:

Here is the thread where the guy linked the pins:
http://golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33377&page=9

I did not have any errors with the LEDs as sidelights, I had already switched off the original DRLs.

Since gone back to the original headlights and looking to fit OEM xenons.

Good luck with fitting.

Also purchasing these in a few weeks Jay, a more solid unit than the ebay ones that i was looking at, cant argue with 380 for the 15 led version which includes a HID kit

Nice! Let me know how it goes! unfortunately my car got bumped into the other day so I may have to delay getting the headlights to get it fixed up first...sad days!
