Title: GTi engine swap
Post by: MNuTzG60 on 03 September 2005, 23:28
Lo all,

Ive currently got a mk3 golf 1.4, the gearbox decided to go the day after i spent £220 on it passing the MOT.  VW want £895 for a new one and ive been unsuccesful in finding a decent replacement 2nd hand or recon.

Ive been offered a mk3 1.8 16v GTi free of charge as its just failed its mot due to severe car cancer, mechanically its supposed to be in top condition!

I want to transfer the engine etc from the GTi into my 1.4 shell, will this be a problem or a straight swap?

What else should i be looking at swapping over?

Thanks in advance!

Stu

Er... reckon you'll have to swap pretty much everything if you want it to be safe mate.... Brakes, Suspension, gearknob - EVERYTHING....
