Hi,
I have an issue which has appeared from nowhere. I have searched and Googled with no joy.
It started yesterday. I can be driving at a steady 70/80mph on the motorway, not accelerating or anything, just cruising nicely with perfect weather conditions, not wet or anything and then randomly the ESP light starts flashing and its actually kicking in, i can feel and see the car slowing down. It just had a service, about 500 miles ago and has always seemed to work fine.
Is this an issue any of you have come across and is it a costly fix?
Its a Golf GTI Mk5 - 2006 with DSG
Thank you and Regards,
Craig

Never heard of this before. Best get yourself in touch with someone local who has VCDS or a fault code reader to see if a sensor is playing up. Failing that, ask VW to give your car a once over (they will probably charge a few quid).
Post back once you know more, always interesting to add new info to the database.

Hi Craig,
I had an issue with the light staying on and could not switch off. Known fault and fixed for free by VW.

If intermittent could be car battery known prob on mk6

This sounds like a sensor is reading out of range.
VCDS will read wheel speed and you can see which one is playing up.
Could be a dirty sensor, sensor not seated correctly, corroded/split/chipped ABS ring. Although IIRC the ABS sensors are integral in the bearings.

VCDS reads up to 25mph so is useless if the issue is occuring at speed.....
Hopefully if it is a sensor it will be so far out you will see it at low speeds

Is it predominantly they ABS sensor controlling the effects of the EPS?
