Hi all. I understand there are two different front spring sizes (tops) for Mk3 Golf GTIs. Is there an easy way to tell which mine is without dropping a strut, ie can you tell from chassis code or anything like that? The car's a 1994 M-plate 16v GTI. Cheers.

No all gti are the same. Gti are different from smaller models a vr6 will bd different too. But all gti springs are the same.

Hmm, not when i changed. Mine had 3 colour dots "2 paint mark violet 1 paint marks yellow". Isn't it depending on what accessories the car has?

Thought there were different spring-top diameters dependent on year? Thought the change-over was year related - around 1994?

correct, but then it depends on what things the car has, climatronic etc

There are 2 choices 80mm pigtails up to 04/95 (build month not reg month!) and then 65mm pigtails on the fronts.
you can use the late springs on earlies and just need new top spring plates and vice versa

Are the later springs slightly shorter too? It's just that later cars always simple a bit more nose-down. Can I find build date info on ID plate? Thanks for your help.
