Title: Seal for Rocker Cover
Post by: robw09 on 11 April 2014, 10:41
Guys, have a bit of an issue with the rocker cover breather seal and potentially something more sinister though I am hoping not.  http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_Seal-Rocker-Cover-Breather-Golf-Mk2-82-92-T4-90-03-028103500_act_shop.product_pID_199855.htm

This part is perished and needs replacing.  However, I did notice the flying saucer pressure regulating valve & also the pipe connecting to the PRV at the other end had quite a lot of creamy gunk around the inside.

3 main questions for you more knowledgeable people

1.    Should the rocker cover breather seal as above be held in with some type of sealant?  If, so what type?

2.   In my infinite wisdom I decide to wash out the PRV flying saucer!  Do I now need a new one or is it ok just to let it dry out and re-use?  (part number on mine is 075 129 101)

3.   Should I be worried about the gunk?

Many thanks…again!
Rob

1. No
2. Should be OK.
3. Depends. Do you do a lot of short journeys? Does the gunk come back quickly after you've cleaned it out?

1.  Good.  New one ordered.
2.  Thank goodness!
3.  1st time it has ever been off as far as I know.
